Chocolate Cream Pie Recipe

Chocolate cream pie. A pie filled with chocolate.  Sounds like every kids dream.  The inspiration to make this recipe was after watching Julie and Julia a film which interweaves the stories of Julia Child  and a New York blogger Julie Powell.   I have put this recipe together from several I found on the Internet with a few alterations of my own. I will get round to cooking Julie Child’s version.

Instead of a pastry case I have chosen to use a biscuit base as you would for a cheese cake.  At first I was going to use Oreo biscuits for this, but whilst stood in the supermarket changed my mind and used bourbon biscuits. The filling is essentially a custard .

  •   1 packet of bourbon biscuit
  • 50g butter
  • 1 cup of double cream
  • 2.5 cups of milk
  • 3/4 cup of vanilla sugar
  • 1/3 cup of corn flour
  • 75g of 85% coco solids chocolate
  • 25g of butter
  • 9 egg Yolks
  • 1 cup of double cream
  • Vanilla extract

  1. Put two bourbon biscuits. to the side and crush the rest.
  2. Melt the butter and add to the crushed biscuits.
  3. Put the mixture in the bottom of 30cm spring form or loose bottom cake tin and spread the mixture out with the back of a spoon. Pressing the mixture against the base of the tin as you go.
  4. Chill the base in the refrigerator.

  1. Put the egg yolks and sugar in a bowl and whisk.
  2. Add the corn starch.
  3. Heat the cream and the milk.
  4. Pour the cream and the milk into egg and sugar mix.
  5. Return to the heat are stir until the custard starts to thicken.
  6. Add the chocolate and stir until melted.
  7. Allow the chocolate custard to start to cool.
  8. Pour the chocolate custard on top the base.
  9. Return to the refrigerator.

Yet more waiting but don’t worry.  You remember the two bourbon biscuits you kept to the side in step one?  You can now eat these with a cup of tea.

  1. Once cold carefully remove the pie from the cake tin.
  2. Whisk the cream and a few drops of vanilla extract and pipe onto the top of the pie.
  3. Slice and eat.

We moved into this house in 2013. At that time the garden was a blank canvas, This blog is a scrapbook of my gardening journey. Something I can look back on and remember the highs and lows, something that perhaps other people will enjoy reading and hopefully commenting on along the way.

  1. It looks delicious. I wondered what the two biscuits were for, I laughed when I found the answer. I like the idea of using biscuits as a base instead of pastry, the biscuit base is my favourite part of a cheesecake.
