Once More Into The Breach

A new year a new start in the garden and yet another attempt to write a blog.  So how will I contrive to mess it up this year.

This is really my first full year of my own garden having moved from a terraced house last May.  So I start  the year with an optimistic outlook and big plans.

My garden was pretty much a blank slate the start of the year.  I cut a few borders into the grass and added a poly tunnel greenhouse at the bottom,  a poor choice of position as the trees cast too much of a shadow.  This led to  no tomatoes or cucumbers and one measly squash right at the end of the year.  I have opted to move the poly tunnel nearer the house in hope the extra sun will improve things.

The Successes

My one success of the year was my kale which I am still harvesting although it is not good enough to get my son eating green vegetables.

The Failures

All my onions died
The beetroot and parsnips never even got started
The spinach beet
I harvested more potatoes than i planted but only just.
Tomatoes failed in the poly tunnel but produced well in the dining room windows,

So What For This Year.

This year I’m looking to continue ‘landscaping’ the garden.  I plan to add a couple of raised beds higher up the garden which hopefully get more sun and will improve my vegetable harvest.  I will also be purchasing a hen house and a few chickens.

So Chicken and Veg  Sounds like a plan ….Or a Soup

AboutIan

We moved into this house in 2013. At that time the garden was a blank canvas, This blog is a scrapbook of my gardening journey. Something I can look back on and remember the highs and lows, something that perhaps other people will enjoy reading and hopefully commenting on along the way.
